The year 2020 was marked by Covid. At Altyor, Covid also meant a new governance (very quickly an article on this subject), new ways of working and above all the official launch of Design for tomorrow.
Setting up eco-responsible production
Pride for our employees and pride also for our customers, Design for tomorrow is our approach for all the actions carried out during the design of our customers’ products in order to implement responsible production.
It is based on different axes:
- The ‘Sustainable’ dimension: the fight against programmed obsolescence is one of Altyor’s main concerns. We also find in this axis, the durability of the products thanks to the systematic qualification tests for each product and our experience feedback on sustainable references.
- The ‘Reusable’ dimension: our recycling chain was initiated nearly ten years ago for our customers and aims to recover plastic from products at the end of their life cycle and re-inject them into new products.
- The ‘Optimized’ dimension: energy management is central to reducing the carbon footprint of products. Our engineers think about how to select low-consumption components or batteries with the right dimensioning, for example.
- The ‘Ethical’ dimension: refers to our internal (our employees) and external (our suppliers) actions. We are committed to these two aspects with respect for everyone.

BALANCE SHEET 2020: product life cycle analysis
It is now time to take stock. Here are 5 highlights of our year 2020 from the perspective of ‘Design for tomorrow’:
We are able to analyze the life cycle of products designed and manufactured, allowing us to assess the impacts of manufacturing through transportation, product use and end of life. This service is available to all our clients.
In 2020, nearly 26% of the plastic used in our customers’ products was made from recycled material, representing the CO2 absorption of more than 20,000 trees over one year.
As soon as the client agrees to choose Altyor for its project, our ‘Design for tomorrow’ manager presents the possible actions that can be taken at the beginning of each project to integrate this eco-responsible dimension.
The ‘Design for tomorrow’ manager is also present during each design and validation to check if all the eco-responsible dimensions have been considered.
The creation of a new Innovation position to keep a permanent watch on eco-design issues in particular.
FUTURE ACTIONS
Our eco-responsible commitment doesn’t stop there. Here are a few actions that will be implemented between now and 2022:
- Improving our feedback processes again and again
- Doubling our use of recycled plastics, half of our total plastic consumption
- Train all teams in eco-design solutions
- Carry out in-depth work on the optimization of our logistics flows
Come to Sustainable Development Week from May 30 to June 5, 2021 to experience a full week of our actions: videos, educational documents, testimonials… and discover all our medium and long-term commitments.
