A storyteller without a screen

Lyon-based start-up Pimely has created Bookinou, a screen-free storyteller that lets children listen to stories with the associated book. The mobile application lets you record readings by friends and family in their own voices, for a unique moment of reading discovery.

Altyor has been the industrial partner of this French gem since 2018. The challenges were many for this ScaleUp program, to deliver a user experience that’s adapted to the target audience: easy-to-use mechanical box, clear audio, compliance with toy standards. Airwaves and updating constraints were also taken into account throughout the design phase, to satisfy the needs of young and old alike..

Since 2024, Pimely has chosen to establish a circular economy scheme for the refurbishment of e-readers that have reached the end of their useful life, carried out by its young users.

It is at Altyor’s remanufacturing facility in Saint-Cyr-en-Val that Bookinou products are given a new lease of life.
